Do you have a great idea for the next best thing? Great! This country was founded on the ideas of individuals and small companies. Your invention may change the world, or it may change just one person’s life, but how do you get that idea from your head into the hands of consumers? The first step is to have your idea protected. Your idea is your intellectual property, and it should stay that way. Whatever you do, DON’T GET SCAMMED!

The second step is to PROTOTYPE your idea. A prototype is a physical representation of your idea. There are two types of prototypes. A Proof-of-concept, or works-like prototype is an initial representation of your idea. It will function the same way as you intend the final product to function, however it may not look exactly like a mass-production unit. A works-like prototype is created in order to prove the concept of your idea and to work out any major “bugs” in your idea.

Once the “works-like” prototype is created, analyzed, and perfected, it is time to create a prototype for mass production, or a “works-like, looks-like” prototype. This prototype will be a fully functional exact replica of your product.
